Art Lab at the Mattress Factory Museum

Image

Scott Andrew performs in ‘HOW TO SPEAK WITH CHILD ABOUT THE COMMUNISM?’, and Art Lab at the Mattress Factory, 500 Sampsonia Way, Pittsburgh, on December 1st, 1-4pm.

American child of the Soviet diaspora–you are the flower of the Cold War.

Before you disappear into America, we ask ourselves this question:

HOW TO SPEAK WITH CHILD ABOUT THE COMMUNISM?

Let down by the collapse of the USSR, glad to leave a society they had never felt part of, or following a path of obvious necessity, thousands of Russians have found themselves in, of all places, America. Their children are the historic embodiment of an ideological paradox.

St Petersburg’s Factory of Found Clothes (Gluklya), Emily Newman, and the MFA candidates of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art invite you to join them at the Mattress Factory’s ArtLab on December 1st for an interactive performance workshop addressing the living legacy of the Cold War in Pittsburgh.

Trans-Q Television

Image

Suzie Silver and Scott Andrew introduce Trans-Q Television, a collaborative online variety show with the support of The Center for Arts in Society and the School of Art @ Carnegie Mellon University.

Trans-Q Television is an online video variety series exploring gender expression, sexuality, desire, and ecstatic acts of being. We collaborate with artists and scholars to produce programming that includes stand-up theory, micro-documentaries, video art, animation, interviews, literary presentations, performance art, music, and much more. Our goal is tocreate a playful and provocative show that revels in the fluidity of gender and sexuality. We envision an online Dadaist Variety Show for the 21st Century; a truly warped combination of Lawrence Welk, Andy Warhol’s TV, Ernie Kovacs, Sonny and Cher, Flip Wilson, Carol Burnett, and Wigstock.

Glimmer End of the World Unicorn Performance @ Artastrophe

Image

Scott Andrew and Jonathan Armistead were invited to create a performance in conjunction with Glimmer. The performance was a utopic unicorn mating ritual with performers Scott Andrew, Dani Lamorte, Stephanie Ross, and Harrison Apple at Artastrophe: The 5th Annual Ignition Art Exhibition in the Shot Tower Gallery in Columbus, OH.

Performance Description: The Glimmer End of the World performance is a Dionysian ritual with chaotic worship, enlightened spirituality and debaucherous displays of lust, ecstasy and intoxication.  The four performers serve as reverse horseman of the apocalypse. Their queered bodies personify an emphasis on and celebration of life, health, peace, bounty and excess through a short choreographed movement-based performance.
